What is Electricity?


Electricity (from the New Latin Ä“lectricus, "amber-like"[a]) is a general term that encompasses a variety of phenomena resulting from the presence and flow of electric charge.

The most convenient form of energy as it can be generated at one specialized location and sent away long distances to reach the remotest location to be easily converted to other forms of energies according to requirements.

Concepts are better identified by more precise terms: 

Electric charge – a property of some subatomic particles, which determines their electromagnetic interactions. Electrically charged matter is influenced by, and produces, electromagnetic fields. 
Electric current – a movement or flow of electrically charged particles, typically measured in amperes. 
Electric fieldan influence produced by an electric charge on other charges in its vicinity. 
Electric potentialthe capacity of an electric field to do work on a electric charge, typically measured in volts. 
Electromagnetisma fundamental interaction between the magnetic field and the presence and motion of an electric charge. 


Importance of Electricity:

                        Electricity is important because it is versatile, controlled easily and is used in everyone's daily life. Without electricity, humans would have to use other forms of energy that are less efficient.
                  Each day electricity plays a key role in keeping homes and businesses running smoothly, powers transportation that take people to work, school and other places, and supplies electricity to appliances in all sectors. The primary use of electricity varies depending on the place where it is used and the nature of the facility.
